BUILDING A LEGACY

Lake Wylie High School opened in August 2026 in the Clover School District as an SCHSL 4A school in Region 3. Chargers Cross Country and Track & Field is a founding program, and this is its story from day one.

2026: THE FOUNDING SEASON

The program began that summer with Summer Sacrifice, its first training block, from June 1 to August 14, 2026. The founding roster has no seniors, because the oldest class graduates in 2028.

FIRST-SEASON TEAM FINISHES

South Mecklenburg Invitational (8/22/26): Girls 6th, Boys 10th

Trojan Invitational (9/12/26): Girls 5th, Boys 11th

Clover Classic Eagles Nest XC Invitational (9/19/26): Girls 4th, Boys 7th

Victory Bolt XC Invitational, home (9/26/26): Girls 3rd varsity, Boys 7th varsity

Northwestern 2 (9/29/26): Girls 2nd, Boys 2nd

THE FIRST HOME MEET

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, Lake Wylie hosted the inaugural Victory Bolt XC Invitational. It was the program's first home meet and first night meet, held on the new Cannonball Run course on campus. Sixteen teams and 537 finishers raced under the lights with fireworks, and the Chargers set 24 personal records.

SPRING 2027: TRACK & FIELD BEGINS

The Chargers' first track & field season begins in spring 2027. Interested athletes can reach Coach Young through the Contact page.

THE COACH BEHIND THE PROGRAM

Head Coach Christopher Young brings nearly 30 years in the sport to Lake Wylie. Before the Chargers, he coached four seasons at Clover High School and Clover Middle, from fall 2022 to spring 2026:

2022: Girls and boys both last place (6th of 6) at Region 3-5A; girls 13th and boys 16th at the State Qualifier

2023: Girls 9th and boys 11th at qualifiers

2024: Girls 9th and boys 15th at State

2025: Girls SCHSL 5A Division I State Champions; boys 7th at State

Clover went from last place at Region in 2022 to a state title in four years. Coach Young's full background is on the Staff page.
